Hey Marah Fans – Here’s Some Good News

Remember Marah? Those “kids from Philly” made a big splash in the No Depression scene of the late ’90. The band fits somewhere on the spectrum between the Replacements and the Hold Steady but with some twangy touches of banjos and pedal steel.

Marah released some great, but little heard albums. Bruce Springsteen was a fan; they recorded on Steve Earle‘s short-lived label.  They had a problem of holding on to band members beyond the founding brothers – David and Serge Bielanko.

Word came out this week that the guys are getting back together to mark the 15th anniversary of their Kids In Philly album to do a couple Philadelphia area shows and re-issue that album on vinyl. Maybe they will still around a little longer and do more shows, but I’m not betting on it.

here is the band performing “Point Blank” on the Conan O’Brien Show way back in 2000.
