Top Show(s): If you are up for a trip to Pomona, Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers will be performing at the Fox Performing Arts Center. Country legend Merle Haggard will be in Beverly Hills’ at the Saban Theater.
Toronto singer-songwriter Basia Bulat, who released the indelible Tall Tall Shadow earlier this year, performs at the Bootleg. Local SoCal favorite Grant Langston will bring his friends (including David Serby) to the Cinema Bar while the Watkins Family host their Christmas show at Largo.
Top Show(s): Former Crooked Still singer Aoife O’Donovan released a lovely solo outing Fossils this year. She will be at the Hotel Café and then McCabe’s on the 14th. Sharing the bill on both nights is L.A. singer-songwriter Patrick Park who is celebrating his new EP We Fall Out Of Touch. The Lone Bellow had one of the better Americana debuts this year. They headline the Troubadour.
Austin duo Brennen Leigh & Noel McKay play the Honky Tonk Hacienda at El Cid. The wonderful vocalist Alison Moyet (ah, fond memories of “Only You” and Yaz’s Upstairs at Eric’s) performs at Club Nokia. Telekinesis and the Dismemberment Plan share the Fonda Theatre stage, while American Authors, Royal Concepts and MisterWives form a lively triple bill at the Roxy.
Top Show: One of this month’s bills is Dawes and Shovels & Rope show at the Wiltern.
Guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa will play an acoustic and an electric set at his Dolby Theater concert. A pair of fine New Orleans bands will be in Southern California on Friday: roots rocker The Iguanas will be at McCabe’s while the iconic Preservation Hall Jazz Band has a performance at the Cerritos Center. Jeff Campbell, who recently won the Guitar Center’s Singer-Songwriter contest, performs at the Viper Room.
Top Show: the annual Judith Owen & Harry Shearer Holiday Sing-Along has a schedule guest list that includes Van Dyke Parks, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Weird Al Yankovic and more.
Wales-born, L.A.-based rock siren Cate Le Bon comes to the Bootleg.
