Go See Hear In L.A. Nov. 26-Dec. 1 (Thanksgiving/Back to Bad Friday edition)

It looks like this Thanksgiving week is shaping up as a slow week for shows. I will resist describing it as a “turkey” – whoops, I just did. While there might not be a lot of cool shows, there will be a lot of cool items available for Record Store Day “Back To Black” Friday. A quick look at the offerings finds vinyl specials from Charles Bradley, Jason Isbeel, Nick Lowe, Van Dyke Parks, Nilsson, Uncle Tupelo, Gene Clark, Townes Van Zandt and many, many more.

On Tuesday night, Alice Cooper brings his “Raise The Dead” tour to Costa Mesa’s classy Segerstrom Hall. Cooper’s theatrics tend to overshadow his impressive core of songs (although most date back to my childhood). Still, I applaud his lengthy career and say “Hello, hooray, let the show begin. I am ready!”

Anyway, singer/songwriter Tom Brosseau has another local showcase for his upcoming CD Grass Punks. He’ll be at the Pieter Performance Space on the 29th.

Yes, Crystal Bowersox was an American Idol finalist. Focus instead on the fact that her last album was produced by Los LobosSteve Berlin. She’ll play McCabe’s on the 30th. Also on the 30th, Chris Isaak will be charming the folks at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
