It’s Toussaint Tuesday

Today is Fat Tuesday and if you know what it means to miss New Orleans, then you can find solace at Royce Hall today. The inimitable Allen Toussaint headlines a New Orleans-themed show with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

If you aren’t in a Mardi Gras mood, then you might want to head to the Palladium, where U.K. songstress Ellie Goulding will be performing. Ra Ra Riot brings its new, more rhythm-oriented sound to the El Rey on Tuesday and Santa Ana’s Observatory on the 13th.

Let me also mention that Wednesday the 13th also finds keyboards Barry Goldberg continuing his Mint residency while Hall of Famer Eric Burdon stops by Amoeba (and then the Grammy Museum on Thursday) to share his ‘Til The River Runs Dry, an impressively strong serving of rough-edged, rock ‘n’ roll. I saw him a few years back on one of those Sixties flashback tours and he showed that he still is a powerful singer.
