The La’s – the late ’80s Liverpool band that set many a power pop fan’s heart a flutter with the great single, “There She Goes.” The band, with fellow Brit rockers the Stone Roses, burst upon the music scene with gobs of talent only – for various reasons – failed to be able do much beyond their initial success. (they even worked with the same producer John Leckie, for trivia buffs)
Beyond the opportunity to think about this gorgeous tune again, I am mentioned the band because they will be appearing in New York for the first time in 20 years as part of the inaugural New York Sound City conference and music festival. Taking place on March 12, the day will feature panels about the music business, technology and other topics, while the La’s will headline a show at Webster Hall that night. Who will be in the band, I don’t know. Although I assume frontman Lee Mavers is leading the band.
