Sometimes you come across something so cool, awesome and unexpected that you just want to share.
The other I clicked on a link to a band that I had never heard of and was totally blown away by both the band and the video.
The band is Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo. I know very little about Emily Barker, although she apparently is an Ivor Norvello award winning songwriter (which is a significant prize in the U.K.). Instead of spending time looking up more on her, I thought I’d spend the time sharing this on my blog.
The song “Fields of June” is a dandy and dusty Americana murder ballad that seems plucked from some old ’78. Similarly, the video is done in the style of an old silent movie, complete with iris shots, dialogue cards and stylized acting. Both the video and the song features fellow British folkie Frank Turner. According to their press material, the band’s next release (they have 3 already) won’t be out until next year on Xtra Mile Recordings. But here is the video link to discover them now:
